Sections/Units

The Division of Forensic Sciences is comprised of approximately 70 employees on two sites, one in Wilmington, Delaware, and one in Georgetown, Delaware. Each section at DFS plays some role in the processing, receiving, or testing evidence, while those in the Medical Examiner Unit provide pathology and death investigation services. Members of the DFS respond to public inquiry, provide statistical data, or support family members and other customers during difficult and stressful situations. Currently, the lab is the only fully-functional forensic laboratory in the state. We accept evidence from investigations originating anywhere in Delaware; from the city, state, or federal levels.

Each section at DFS is held to stringent quality guidelines that help ensure the integrity of each piece of evidence and the accuracy of each test or medical examiner report. Each section also has safety policies and procedures to help ensure the safety of all DFS personnel.
